Searching for What We Lost and Revival

'I can't sleep from the torment of separation, help o My Lord! "Zulmet-i hicranla bîdâr olmuşum yâ Rab meded.
I live my life in waiting, help o My Lord!' İntizâr-ı subh-ı dîdâr olmuşum yâ Rab meded."
(Niyazi al-Misri) (Niyazi Mısrî)
Waiting for a morning when I will face my Beloved is keeping my heart beating at fast rate: Sevdiğim ile yüz yüze geleceğim bir sabah beklentisi içinde, yüreğim hep heyecanla çarpıp duruyor:
'When will I meet God?' "Ne zaman Allah'a mülâkî olacağım?"
I don't know how many people think about this throughout the day and live their lives accordingly, on this path.
Yes, desiring to meet God as soon as possible or living one's life as if he's met with God, with serious God-consciousness.
Things we have lost. Yitirilen şeyler.
A lot has been lost, this is one of the important things that has been lost.
Our history for the last three-four centuries is a history of loss. Bizim tarihimiz, esas, dünden bugüne, hususiyle son üç-dört asır, yitikler tarihi.
'Three centuries' says Bediüzzaman based on the century he lived in. "Üç asır" diyor o zat; zannediyorum kendi yaşadığı dönem itibarıyla, o döneme kadar "üç asır" diyor herhalde.
We need to count four centuries, four centuries that have been downhill for us. Dört asır saymak lazım; dört asır tepetaklak gitme dönemi bizim için.
Actually, nine centuries of stagnation and fading. Aslında dokuz asır duraklama, renk atma, solma, pörsüme dönemi.
From time to time people of character have displayed their virtues and this motivated other people to act at a certain standard.
Umar ibn Abdulaziz, Saladin... Bir Ömer İbn Abdülaziz; o, eski zaten, bir Selâhaddin.
The poet Mehmet Akif Ersoy mentions him in a verse in his poem called 'Nightingale': 'The land of those who are like Saladin and Fatih'.
'You have a partner, you have a residence, you have spring so that you would wait "Eşin var, âşiyânın var, baharın var ki beklerdin
What was it to cause unrest, O nightingale, what is your problem? Kıyametler koparmak neydi, ey bülbül, nedir derdin?
You landed on the emerald throne, you established a heavenly reign O zümrüt tahta kondun, bir semâvî saltanat kurdun
Even if all nations in the world were to be destroyed, your home would not be destroyed.' Cihanın yurdu çiğnense hep, çiğnenmez senin yurdun" diyor.
All that has been lost. Neler yitirilmiş.
When the nation became occupied by some sinister and tactless people, we lost our values, it was as if we contaminated the region and lost all the good of the past.
Three to four centuries of stagnation and fading. Renk ata ata, şöyle böyle, üç asır, dört asır öncesine kadar geliyor.
'God-consciousness' is lost, but people are unaware of what is gone. "İhsan" şuuru yitiriliyor, insanlar farkında değiller.
God-consciousness. İhsan şuuru.
Being a servant of God with the 'notion of being seen by God'.
'He always sees me. "Hep beni görüyor.
How should I act? Nasıl davranmam lazım benim?
Would it be disrespectful if I do things in a certain way? Since He always sees me, would I be disrespectful to Him by doing so? Acaba böyle yapmam saygısızlık olur mu; O beni görüyorsa, benim O'nun tarafından görüldüğüm meselesi söz konusu ise, bu, O'na karşı saygısızlık olur mu?
I wonder if, by laughing out loud, I'm being disrespectful to Him. Kahkaha atmak, acaba O'na karşı bir saygısızlık olur mu?
If my tears dry up, would I be disrespecting Him?' Gözyaşlarının kuruması, O'na karşı bir saygısızlık olur mu?" mülahazaları içinde olma.
Our loss is first and foremost this sense of God-consciousness, the sense of sincerity of intention. İlk yitiğimiz, maalesef bu ihsan şuuru, ihlas mülahazası.
Being deeply conscious of Him in our conscience, internalising this, making it part of our nature; considering its loss as our own loss. O'nu derinlemesine vicdanlarımızda duyma, o duyuşu içtenleştirme, tabiatımızın bir derinliği haline getirme; yokluğunu, kendi yokluğumuz sayma.
'It would have been better to disappear rather than losing my God-consciousness. "Bunlar, yok olacağına, ben yok olsaydım daha iyiydi.
Because becoming non-existent in this regard would be a sign of my respect to God. Çünkü o mevzuda benim yok olmam, belki, Allah'a karşı saygının gereği olacaktı.
O God! Allah'ım.
Rather than lacking Your consciousness, like dry wood.' Böyle kupkuru yaşayacağıma, bir odun gibi."
When the Qur'an mentions the hypocrites, it says: Kur'an-ı Kerim, münafıkları anlatırken öyle diyor:
'They are like blocks of wood wrapped with Yemeni fabric.' 'When you see them, their outward form pleases you. "Yemen kumaşı giydirilmiş keranlar, kirişler, odunlar gibi." "Onları gördüğün zaman kalıp ve kıyafetleri hoşuna gider.
(Their posture and speech are attractive and effective, so that) you give ear to their words when they speak.
(In reality) they are like blocks of wood propped up and (draped over) in striped cloaks' (Al-Munafiqun, 63:4). Gerçekte ise onlar, duvara dayalı giydirilmiş kütükler gibidir" (Münafikûn, 63:4).
The things we have lost Yitirdiğimiz şey.
A grand purpose of one's life; targeting that goal, living one's life in that direction. Yüksek bir gâye-i hayal duygusu/mülahazası; onu hedefleme, o istikamette yaşama.
What is it? Nedir o?
Making the Divine Essence known in all corners of the world, and raising It like a flag. Zât-ı Uluhiyeti dünyanın dört bir yanında duyurma, bayraklaştırma.
Making the Noble Spirit of the Master of Humankind known all around the world. Hazreti Rûh-u Seyyidi'l-enâm'ı bütün dünyaya duyurma.
The Prophet wanted this and said: İstiyor ve işaretliyor:
'My name will reach everywhere the sun rises and sets.' "Adım, güneşin doğup-battığı her yere ulaşacaktır."
We lost this desire; this is yet another loss of ours.
Living without a grand purpose of life. Gâye-i hayalsiz yaşama.
The Spokesman of Our Age said: 'Without having a grand purpose of life, or by forgetting it; one's thoughts would perpetually revolve around one's ego.' "Gaye-i hayal olmazsa veyahut nisyan veya tenâsî edilse; ezhân enelere dönüp etrafında gezerler" diyor Çağın Sözcüsü.
Without having a grand purpose of life, or by forgetting it; one's thoughts would perpetually revolve around one's ego; and one would eventually worship one's self. One would stop worshipping God and start worshipping one's self instead. Gaye-i hayal olmazsa veya bütün bütün unutulsa ya da unutulmuş tavrı yaşansa, o zaman nefisler, enâniyetlere döner; herkes kendi kendine tapmaya başlar, Allah'ı bırakır kendine tapar.
'If I have an interest or gain in this, it is also important for me. "Var ise bir çıkar, o da benim için önemli.
If I have an interest, essentially it is important. Çıkarım var ise, esasen, önemli.
Whatever I gain from this, it is the thing that matters.
Whatever makes me live in this world happily is the true grand purpose of life.' Dünyayı bana mesûdâne yaşatan şeyler ne ise şayet, esas gâye-i hayal odur."
Shall we call it a rigid 'monument' of the ego? Shall we call it an 'idol'? In the world of those who have lost their grand purpose of life. Böyle kaskatı bir benlik -"âbidesi" mi diyelim, "putu" mu diyelim- putu haline gelir, gâye-i hayali yitirilmiş insanların dünyasında.
Yes, this is said to be happening over the past three-four centuries, but it is a lot older than that.
Performing servanthood with serious consciousness and deep consideration.
These are things we have lost. Yitirilen şeyler bunlar.
Burying the thought of the afterlife, placing stones over it just in case it does not resurrect, and living accordingly.
The loss of knowingly preferring this world over the next. Bilerek, dünya hayatını, âhiret hayatına tercih etme kaybı.
When we look back, another of the things we have lost is living according to the Hereafter. Yitirilmiş şeylerden, geriye dönüp baktığımız şeylerden biri de ahiret yörüngeli yaşama.
Things we have gained as a nation; our traditions and habits. Milletçe bize kazandırılan şeyler; geleneklerimiz, göreneklerimiz, ananelerimiz.
Alongside the major evidence of Islamic Law; the Qur'an, Prophetic Tradition, Consensus of the Muslim Community, Deductive Reasoning and independent reasoning, religion has been made appropriate for the human spirit and become the true nature of humans after being filtered through 'major evidences of Islamic Law' such as; traditions and human customs. It has become a set of beauties. "Edille-i şer'iyye-i asliye"nin, Kitap, Sünnet, İcmâ-i Ümmet, Kıyas, İctihad'ın yanında, "edille-i şer'iyye-i tâliye" diyebileceğimiz anane, gelenek, örf ve âdetlerden süzülerek, onlar ile elenerek, dinin ruhuna uygun hale getirildikten sonra tabiatımızın bir derinliği haline gelmiş güzellikler manzumesi.
And this is another of the things we have lost. Yitirilmiş şeylerden birisi de o.
Imitating others; following people who are essentially worthless. Başkalarını taklit etme; esasen değersiz, kıymet-i harbiyesi olmayan insanların arkasına takılıp sürüklenme.
After a certain period we lost the emotion of being ourselves.
I can count one hundred things we have lost. Yitiklerimizin yüz tanesini sayabilirim.
That has been lost. Yitirilmiş.
I think If I try hard, I would be able to list one hundred. Zannediyorum az kendimi sıksam, yüz tane sayabilirim.
But I also want to add: Fakat şununla kâfiyelendirmek istiyorum:
There are so many things we have lost. O kadar çok yitirdiğimiz şey var ki.
But the most hurtful among the things we have lost is the feeling of looking back and searching for the things we have lost. Saying, 'How can we revive these things, how can we come back to life after death; what sort of revival can we display?'
How can humankind look at us and aspire to be us, 'How beautiful are these people, they have established a utopic world.
Why aren't we with these people?' Niye bunlarla beraber aynı çizgide değiliz?' der."
Such an attitude worthy of aspiration, an attitude that will stimulate a desire in others and searching for these lost emotions; this is what we have lost.
When the emotion for searching has been lost, essentially, expiation for what is lost is not in question.
Everything is entrusted to abandonment, as it is. Her şey, olduğu gibi, terk edilmişliğe emanet.
It is abandoned, and we do not attempt to search for it. Terkediliyor ve biz dönüp onları aramaya girişmiyoruz.
'I wonder when and what we should do to follow up to compensate for what we have lost. "Acaba nerede neyi takibe alırsak, kayıplarımızı telafi ederiz, kaza ederiz?
We came on time, but we could not make up for it. Vaktine yetiştik, kaza edemedik.
Human values, a sense of God-consciousness, morals depending on sincerity of intention, altruism, living humanely, having good character that will make the angels envious, and being molecules of a system the whole world can point out. İnsanî değerleri, ihsan şuurunu, ihlas ahlakını, îsâr düşüncesini, insanca yaşamayı, melekleri imrendirecek bir keyfiyet sergilemeyi, bütün dünyanın parmakla gösterebileceği bir sistemin molekülleri olmayı.
I wonder how we can provide this once again.' Acaba bunları yeniden nasıl tedarik ederiz?"
Losing this quality directly means a loss of self for a nation.
Discussing ruin, downfall and rapture can be unpleasant. Evet, bunlar acı; yıkıntılardan bahsin ifadesi esasen; çöküşlerin, kırılmaların bahsinin ifadesi.
But during various periods, a group of revivers awaken the necessary feeling of 'renewal' in humankind.
As the book Al-Mustadrak ala as-Sahihayn by Al-Hakim Nishapuri says, 'Mujaddid (Reviver)'; on the condition of 'one hundred years'. Dinin ifadesiyle, Hâkim en-Neysâbûrî'nin el-Müstedrek ale's-Sahîhayn isimli eserinde geçen bir hadiste "Müceddid" deniyor; "yüz sene" kaydıyla ifade ediliyor.
This can be ninety to one hundred years. By reference, when they declared Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz a Reviver, it was one hundred years after God's Messenger was pronounced a Messenger. It is said that 'a Reviver arrives every hundred years'.
Imam al-Ghazali can be seen as the Reviver in the fifth century after the Hijra.
And in the eleventh century, Ahmad Faruq as-Sirhindi arrives. İkinci bin seneye girdiğimiz zaman İmam Rabbânî hazretlerini öyle görebilirsiniz.
Getting closer to this period, Mawlana Khalid al-Baghdadi can be seen in the nineteenth century. Bu çağa doğru geldiğimiz zaman, on dokuzuncu asırda Mevlânâ Hâlid-i Bağdâdî'yi öyle görebilirsiniz.
These honourable people have put forth revival projects set to the conditions of the century they were in. Just like Israfil, they blew renewal into humans with crystal clear breaths.
I previously mentioned it like so: Biraz evvel o sözle ifade ettim:
Their presence caused synergy in others; it was said, 'we should awaken like them'.
Just like how I have been trying to present it through various means, if only we could burst into sobs that leaves us speechless, as we listen to the imam speaking.
If only his heart would stop. Keşke kalbi dursa, ölse.
He should fall off the pulpit and die. Keşke minberden aşağıya yuvarlansa, ölse.
Rather than explain at lengths of a book, words should have an impact on hearts.
Is this feeling not dead within people in your mosques?
Test the matter with your conscience. İnsafınız ile meseleyi test edin.
We have died in our homes. Biz, evde öldük.
We said, 'Perhaps we will be revived at the mosque,' and went there. "Acaba camide bir dirilişe erebilir miyiz?" deyip oraya gittik.
The imam is dead, the preacher dead, the orator dead, the congregation dead. İmam ölmüş, vaiz ölmüş, hatip ölmüş, cemaat ölmüş.
There is nothing that a funeral may express to a person. Cenazelerin insana ifade edeceği hiçbir şey yoktur.
'Do school teach of the commands of creation and its overlapping with the commandments of the Qur'an tell us anything of the Divine Essence?' we said and turned to schools. "Acaba mektep, tekvinî emirleri, Kur'an'ın emirleri ile örtüştürmek suretiyle bize Zât-ı Uluhiyet adına bir şey ifade eder mi?" diye oraya doğru yöneldik.
We see them struggling in the midst of scholastic thought; Neither schools of theology nor regular schools are in the situation to provide something of this value.
They are not. Yok.
They are all sentenced to nothingness. Hepsi yokluğa mahkûm.
'Nothing' cannot give aid people in the name of life. Yokların varlık adına insana vereceği hiçbir şey yoktur.
There is nothing that 'nonentity' can give to people in the name of 'life.' "Yok"un "var"lık adına insana vereceği hiçbir şey yoktur.
Whereas in the words of our ancestors, we are severely in need of these (the higher education in the union of a home, school, school of theology and Sufi lodge). Hâlbuki buna (yuva, mektep, medrese ve tekye birlikteliğinin seviyeli eğitimine) eskilerin ifadesiyle "eşedd-i ihtiyaç" ile ihtiyacımız vardı.
And the Spokesman of Our Age had been given the duty of inducing these very thoughts and feelings.
With his advanced perspicacity, deep thoughts, understanding of the Qur'an, observation of the Prophetic Tradition, reading his own time correctly, his creation of new synthesis through the observation of the modern into his own life, he tried to create a sense of awakening within people. O yüksek fetânetiyle, engin düşüncesiyle, Kur'an anlayışıyla, Sünnet mülahazasıyla, kendi zamanını doğru okuyarak, zamanın yorumlarını kendi mülahazaları içine katmak suretiyle yeni yeni sentezler yaparak, insanlarda çok farklı şekilde "uyanma duygusu" meydana getirmeye çalıştı.
He blew breezes of resurrection from death, breezes of revival onto people.
In travelling to you did its colour fade? Did it shrivel?
While approaching a rose garden, through disloyalty, have we turned the garden he opened for us into a bed of thorns?
Or did we add the colour of the age and the conditions it brings to create new things? Synthesise new things?
In light of hope and fear, I would like to lay the claim that we did, or that you did; my hope is in line of the colours and designs appropriate for this age that you have laid out. Recâ ve ümit açısından, ben, "koyduk" istikametinde veya "koydunuz" istikametinde mütalaada bulunmak istiyorum; recâm, çağa uygun renk ve desenler koyduğunuz istikametinde.
It is very easy to destroy something. Fakat bir şeyi tahrip çok kolaydır.
You are renovating a tower that was subject to three or four centuries of being destruction. Senelerden beri, üç asırdan, dört asırdan beri balyozlarla, külünklerle yıkmaya çalıştıkları bir şeyi, bir kaleyi tamir ediyorsunuz.
This is not something that could be achieved immediately. Bu, hemen birden bire yapılacak gibi değil.
Sincerity, loyalty and being a devotee in this pursuit, will allow this movement and issue to be raised, by God's will and grace. İhlas, samimiyet, vefa, adanmışlık ruhu bazen bir nesilde bu meseleyi Allah'ın izni-inayetiyle ayağa kaldırır.
However if this level of sincerity, loyalty and devotion is not there, this will take more than two generations of work, maybe three generations or seventy-five years, God knows. Fakat o ölçüde ihlas, samimiyet, vefa, adanmışlık ruhu olmazsa, belki iki nesil ister, belki üç nesil ister, bir yetmiş beş sene ister, Allahu a'lem.
A resurrection, such a revival.
The noble Necip Fazıl would say, may he reside in Paradise, 'resurrection'. Üstad Necip Fazıl -makamı cennet olsun- "ba's-ü ba'de'l-mevt" derdi.
Someone that was raised in the same environment, Sezai Karakoç expressed the word 'revival' to the best of his ability. O ekolden yetişen Sezai Karakoç, "diriliş" sözcüğüyle o duyguyu ifade etmeye çalıştı.
Consequently both were trying to convey the same message. Dolayısıyla ikisi de aynı şeyi ifade ediyor.
Such a revival. Öyle bir diriliş.
I wonder if it will be achieved in one generation, or would it need at least two, or three.
While you clench your teeth in patience, on the path of sincerity, concentrating, while sitting and standing and reciting God's Name, by God's will it wouldn't even take as long, maybe only ten years. Diş sıkılırsa, ihlas istikametinde, ihsan duygusu istikametinde konsantrasyona geçilirse, hep oturulur kalkılır "Allah" denirse, Allah'ın izni-inayetiyle, belki bir nesle bile kalmaz, on senede olur.
With the telecommunication of our times, this needs to be included in this dynamism. Günümüzdeki telekomünikasyonu, inkişaf etmiş telekomünikasyonu hesaba katmalı.
Technology has developed to such an extent, with just a single command on such devices you are instantly connected to people from Thailand; and can express your thoughts and emotions to them. Teknoloji öyle inkişaf etmiş ki, bir tuşa basmakla, Tayvan'daki, Tayland'daki insanla hemen münasebete geçiyorsun; duygu ve düşüncelerini onun gönlüne boşaltabiliyorsun.
The media has developed to such extent that within the same day, at the same time, you can be heard instantly by many people. Medya o istikamette öyle inkişaf etmiş ki, aynı günde, aynı demde, aynı ânda hemen herkese her şeyi duyurabiliyorsun.
When you look at the issue from this perspective, and analyse the in this light, by God's permission and grace, He will allow for a revival within a shorter time-frame.
That we have lost will be rediscovered with these methods. Yitikler, bir yönüyle, keşfedilmiş olabilir:
We lost so many things. Şunu yitirmiştik, şunu yitirmiştik, şunu yitirmiştik, şunu yitirmiştik.
We lost our humane virtues. İnsanî değerleri de yitirmiştik.
If we pursue in re-discovering such values we will truly become ourselves. There are articles on, 'How to be yourself'. How you will be true to yourself. Bunları arama ruhuyla yeniden kendimiz oluruz. -"Kendimiz olma" konusuna dair yazılmış yazılar var.- Yeniden kendimiz oluruz.
May God Almighty allow us to be true to ourselves. Cenâb-ı Hak, bizi, kendimiz olmaya muvaffak eylesin.
'Without looking at the winter snow, roses bloom from everywhere. "Kar-kış demeden, her yanda göğeriyor güller,
With the passing of each day, they grow. İnâyetle tülleniyor gelip geçen günler,
The roses blossom with flowers in the hearts of those. Güller Gülü'nü yâd ediyor bütün gönüller
And slowly the sorrows that engulf our soul disappear.' Ve siliniyor ruhumuzu saran hüzünler."
Those who sailed to the four corners of the world, they walked to revive the spirit of the path of the Prophet. Dünyanın dört bir yanına açılan arkadaşlar, peygamberler yolunda, o ruhu yeniden ihyâ etme yolunda yürüdüler:
Like seeds scattered across a desert. Çöle çevrilmiş yerlere tohumlar şeklinde saçılma.
Acting in the consideration that 'One day these seeds will be sowed'. "Bir gün bu tohumlar başağa yürüyecek" mülahazasıyla hareket etme.
To forget one's self, and instead replacing that with one's grand purpose of life. Kendilerini silme, kendilerinin yerinde mefkûlerini, gaye-i hayallerini ihyâ etme.
To think that the revivalism of the world is connected to the revival of humanity, and that, to revive the grand purpose of life. Dünyanın ihyâ edilmesini, insanlığın ihyâ edilmesini o ihyaya bağlama.
'If we act in this altruistic manner, if we annihilate our egos on this path, subsist with God, with God's leave, such a revival will appear and occur that we will become unique and stand out. "Biz, böyle tohumlar şeklinde kendimiz adına yok olursak, kendimizi düşünmeyecek kadar bu mevzuda, fenâ-fillah, bekâ billah maallah olursak, Allah'ın izni-inayetiyle, öyle bir diriliş gerçekleşir ki, hakikaten herkese parmak ısırttırır ve herkes bizi parmakla işaretler."
Our elders would use the expression, 'notable' to describe this, by God's grace and will. Buna eskilerin ifadesiyle "müşârun bi'l-benân" denirdi, parmakla gösterilme mevzuu, Allah'ın izni-inayetiyle.
This is the path you were on. Böyle bir şeye doğru gidiliyordu.
It was a path in which the lost were found. Yani, yitiklerin telafisi, yitiklerin yeniden bulunması istikametinde bir yoldu yürünüyordu.
Numerous harmful obstacles appear before works of great good. Umur-i hayriyenin muzır mânileri olur.
Satan strives very much against those who try to do these works.
Some of Satan's minions are in the form of humans, at the same time, they are in the form of those who find they have strength and power in their fists. Bu şeytanların bazıları, insan şeklindedir; aynı zamanda gücü-kuvveti elinde bulunanlar şeklindedir.
These nefarious forces aim to waylay and damage those on the path of righteousness; they will do all they can to stop good from occurring. Bunlar, bu istikamette (yüksek insanî değerleri ihyâ yoluna) açılmış insanları kösteklemek, frenlemek, kündeye getirmek için, onların dökülüp yollarda kalmaları adına lazım gelen her şeyi yaparlar.
They arrest them and throw them into cells. Kimilerini derdest eder, içeriye atarlar.
They try to separate some, while at the same time reducing their worth and value; reducing them to despicable forms. Kimilerini ayrıştırırlar, aynı zamanda onları değersizleştirirler; hor-hakir hâle getirir, tesirlerini kırmaya çalışırlar.
If they could, they would try to kill them and destroy them. Kimilerini ellerinden gelirse, öldürürler, yok etmeye çalışırlar.
Thus, they consider all the ways in which disrupt and destroy. Ve böylece bütün dağılma yollarını, derbeder olma yollarını değerlendirirler.
Satan and his minions strive against those who are part of this service. Şeytanlar, bu hizmetin hâdimleriyle çok uğraşırlar.
For this reason, those adamant in raising the standard of the Prophet in all corners of the globe must always be aware of this. Bu açıdan da dünyanın dört bir yanına nâm-ı celîl-i İlahîyi ve nâm-ı celîl-i Nebevîyi götürüp insanlığa duyurma istikametinde hareket eden insanlar, değişik köşe başlarında bu türlü gulyabanîler ile karşı karşıya geleceklerini hatırdan dûr etmemeliler.
To act in consideration of the possibility of coming face to face with people like this.
Perhaps we have been deceived. Biz, belki aldandık.
Just as Ziya Pasha once said so: Ziya Paşa'nın "Aldandık" dediği gibi:
'Alas, we are the losers of this game once again; "Eyvah bu bâzîçede bizler yine yandık
For the losses are obvious, but I don't know what we won.' Zira ki ziyan ortada bilmem ne kazandık."

They will come to you and talk to you about the truth and make you listen to the chants of truth. Karşınıza çıkar, geleceklerini -bir yönüyle- bayraklaştırma istikametinde "hak" derler, hak nağmeleri ile size neler neler dinletirler.
They will say, 'justice' and make you listen to the chants of justice. "Adalet" derler, adalet türküleri söylerler.
They will say 'human values' and occupy you with different sounding melodies "İnsanî değerler" derler, Rast makamından bayıltacak şeylerle sizi meşgul ederler.
Yes, 'We are believers and we could be deceived but we can never deceive others.' Evet, "Biz ki ehl-i imanız, aldanırız, fakat aldatmayız."
You will also be defeated by your good assumptions and be deceived. Siz de hüsnüzannınıza yenik düşer, aldanırsınız.
Hence you will run after them. Ve dolayısıyla da onların arkasından koşarsınız.
Yes, this has often been the unfortunate destiny of believers: Evet, bu, çoğu zaman mü'minlerin acı kaderi olmuştur:
They were defeated by their good assumptions. Hüsnüzanlarına yenik düşmüşlerdir.
The Spokesman of Our Age says: 'We are true Muslims, we may be deceived but we will never deceive others. Çağın Sözcüsü, "Biz ki hakikî müslümanız, aldanırız fakat aldatmayız.
We will not accept lies for the sake of this world' Bir hayat için, yalana tenezzül etmeyiz" diyor.
'Since we are Muslims, we may be deceived but we will never deceive others.' "Biz ki mü'miniz, aldanırız, fakat aldatmayız."
Yes we were deceived. Evet, aldandık.
We were always in search for devout people. Her zaman sâdık bir insan aradık.
But the ones we thought were devout turned out to be hypocrites. Fakat sâdık dediklerimiz çıktı münafık.
Again with Bediüzzaman's words, this is the era of hypocrisy, the era of egoism, the era of preference of this world over the Hereafter. Yine, onun ifadesi ile, bu asır, nifak asrı, enâniyet asrı, bilerek dünya hayatını âhirete tercih asrı.
As you can see, no one is content with one, nor two, nor three, nor four, nor ten. Gördüğünüz gibi insanlar, bire kanaat etmiyorlar, iki; ikiye kanaat etmiyorlar, üç; üçe kanaat etmiyorlar, dört; dörde kanaat etmiyorlar, on; ona kanaat etmiyorlar, yüz.
The Pride of Humanity, referring to the periods of collapse and religious corruption, says: İnsanlığın İftihar Tablosu, Hadis kitaplarında, çöküş dönemleri ile alakalı, din adına kırılış dönemleri ile alakalı, fay kırılmalarının yaşandığı dönemler ile alakalı ifade buyuruyor ki:
'If the carnal soul possesses two mountains of gold, it will want a third'. "İki dağ altını olsa, üçüncüsünü ister."
Such an ambition and worldly-mindedness, may God protect us from it. Öyle bir hırs, öyle bir dünyaperestlik, hafizanallah.
Yes, you might have unconsciously been the instrument for their earthly desires.
But God willing, they will be warned with the shocks they have received; and they will turn towards the path of Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, Ali, the Righteous Predecessors, towards the path of Islam which you were trying to properly represent for the past few centuries. Ama inşaallah başlara inen o balyoz uyarmış olur; Ebu Bekir yoluna, Ömer yoluna, Osman yoluna, Ali yoluna, selef-i sâlihîn yoluna, bir dönemde sizin de birkaç asır hakikî manada temsil ettiğiniz gerçek Müslümanlık yoluna insanlar yönelmiş olurlar ve Allah yönlendirmiş olur.
May God turn them towards that path as soon as possible.
May He allow us to compensate for our losses. Yitiklerimizi gidermeye, telafi etmeye bizleri muvaffak eylesin.
'Renounce yourself!' It reads on the screen. "Feragat yâ Hû" deniyor, elektronik tabloda.
Without renouncing everything, you will not be able to achieve what you aim to. Her şeyden feragat etmeyince, elde edeceğiniz şeyleri elde edemezsiniz.
You are not meant to make your house an issue, nor your descendent or parents, nor your village, nor be distracted with those in reign, position or power. Ne eve takılacaksın, ne evciye takılacaksın, ne evlâd u ıyâle takılacaksın, ne anneye-babaya takılacaksın, ne köye-kasabaya takılacaksın, ne saltanata-debdebeye-yıldıza takılacaksın, ne makama-mansıba takılacaksın.
'Will a uniform give honour to someone with no class? "Bed asla necâbet mi verir hiç üniforma?
If you tie a golden saddle to a ... Zer-dûz palan ursan..."
I will not use this phrase, I will express it as the 'thing', and the thing is still the thing. O tabiri kullanmayacağım, "şey" diyeceğim; "... yine şey, yine şeydir."
The things we lose are certain. Kaybettiğimiz şeyler, müsellem.
I have expressed part of it. Ben, min-vechin bir kısmını arz ettim.
For most of it, those in power gave cause to it. Bunların çoğuna da serkârlar tarafından sebebiyet verildi.
If you require an example; while evolving from Topkapi to Dolmabahçe palace, we were turned upside down. Bir örnek isteyecek olursanız; Topkapı'dan Dolmabahçe'ye geçişle esasen, tepe-taklak bir duruma geldik biz.
Our peak was with the Topkapi palace. İ'tilâ (yükseliş, şahlanış) dönemimiz bizim esas Topkapı ile olmuştu.
While suffering economic hardships in the latter days of the empire, we constructed palaces that used up 16 tonnes of gold. Duyûn-i Umûmîye altında iki büklüm inlerken, on altı ton altını yaldızlamasına sarf ettiğimiz o sarayları yaptık.
Those people were Muslims; they performed their prescribed prayers and performed the fast. O insanlar Müslümandı; namaz kılıyorlardı, oruç tutuyorlardı.
However, they weren't in the right state; they withered, and were lacking in design. Fakat kıvam kaybı yaşıyorlardı, renk atmıştı, solmuşlardı, desen kaybı içindeydiler.
When you observed them, they didn't remind you of the noble Prophet. Onlara baktığınız zaman, Hazreti Rasûlullah'ı hatırlayamıyordunuz.
It didn't remind you of God. Onlar, Allah'ı hatırlatmıyordu.
They submitted to luxury. Ve debdebeye yenik düşmüşlerdi.
They were Muslims, like the parasites that have attached themselves to a number of nations in this day and age Müslümandılar; günümüzün bazı talihsiz ülkelerine musallat olmuş parazitler gibi.
Like the parasites that attached themselves to some the Muslim nations today. Günümüzün bazı İslam ülkelerine musallat olmuş parazitler gibi.
Like a plague of maggots and moths, they eat at the fabric of nations and people Güveler gibi, içten içe "yün" diye toplumu kemiriyor ve öğütüyorlar.
It happened like this, there was loss. Öyle oldu; kayıplar oldu.
There are many points at which this loss begins; one of these is the crumbling of the Ottoman Empire. Kayma noktaları çoktur; bu noktalardan birisi, işte o; Devlet-i Aliyye'deki çözülüş.
As Murad I is dying from the wounds of a knife, but he says the following, struggling, 'Do not get off your horses'. Murad Hüdâvendigâr -I. Murad da deniyor- Sırpsındığı'nda, sinesinden hançer yiyip ruhunun ufkuna yürüyeceği ân, belki dudakları zor kıpırdıyordu ama son söylediği sözler "Attan inmeyesüz" oldu.
We demounted the horse, from a pinnacle we descended to the bottom of the creek. Attan indik, merkûba bindik, zirvelerden, derenin dibine indik.
Some say: Hani birileri diyor:
'From where to where.' "Nereden nereye."
From the pinnacle to the creek. Zirveden dereye.
From the barn to the silo Ahırdan mereğe (samanlığa).
No-one has lost their mind Kimse aklını peynirle yememiş.
From where to where? Nereden, nereye?
Everyone can see. Görüyor herkes onu.
Yes, this is how it all fell apart. Evet, çözülüş öyle oldu.
We could delve into the pages of history to understand what we have lost and how to reacquire it, this is something that we need to once again consider and analyse.
Following the battle of Hunayn, there was a massive amount war-booty obtained. Huneyn vakasını müteakip, ciddî ganimet elde edilmişti.
The enemy was a strong people and outnumbered the Muslims a few times over. Onlar, güçlü kimselerdi ve Müslümanların birkaç katı idi.
Just as at Uhud, there was a 'temporary defeat'.
But the Pride of Humanity came up with a new strategy. Fakat İnsanlığın İftihar Tablosu, orada yeni bir hamle yaptı.
This is what the stewards always do. İşte her zaman serkârlar, öyle yaparlar.
Uncle of the Prophet, Abbas says: Amca, Hazreti Abbas diyor ki:
'He spurred his horse in such a manner. "Atını öyle mahmuzladı ki.
In the face of the arrows raining on them, in contrast to those retreating he spurred his horse forward.' Yağan oklar karşısında geriye çekilenlere mukabil atını öyle mahmuzladı ki."
Forward, forward Öne doğru, en öne doğru.
Almost as if to say, 'If this is the place to die right now, then I shall be the first to die.'
He was also wounded in Uhud. Uhud'da da öyle yaralandı.
He was always the first to be the closest to death. Her zaman O, öyle ölüme en yakın durdu.
He made those close to him love death by means of being the closest to death himself; every single one of them willingly ran towards death. Ölüme en yakın durmak suretiyle ölümü sevdirdi; seve seve herkes, ölüme koştu orada.
Mus'ab was the same, Ibn Jahsh likewise, as too were the Abdullah's. Mus'ablar öyle, İbn Cahşlar öyle, Abdullahlar öyle, Hz.
Jabir's father Abdullah was the same. Câbir'in babası Abdullahlar öyle.
When he went that way he said, 'O God. O tarafa gittikten sonra da "Allah'ım.
Send us back to the world so that we may be martyred again, to feel and taste that again.'
Our noble Prophet narrates to us these words of Abdullah. Hazreti Abdullah'ın ifadesini, Efendimiz ifade buyuruyor.
God Almighty states: Cenâb-ı Hak buyurdu ki:
'There is no way of return but I shall bear the news to those remaining.' "Hayır, geriye dönme meselesi yok ama Ben, haber veririm geridekilere."
And He relates this news in this manner. Haber veriyor, öyle.
When a great amount of war-gains were in front of the Muslims, our noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, spread the booty amongst them in an effort to 'connect hearts'. Büyük bir ganimet Müslümanların önüne gelince, Efendimiz (sallallâhu aleyhi ve sellem) "te'lif-i kulûb" için, insanların bazılarının gönüllerini yumuşatma adına dağıttı onları.
He gave a fair chunk of the war booty to those who hadn't yet embraced Islam in an effort to win over their hearts. Henüz İslamiyet'e yeni adım atmış olanların gönlünü kazanma adına, elinden geldiğince onları birinci derecede nazar-ı itibara aldı, vereceğini onlara verdi.
A lofty perspicacity. Yüksek fetânet.
His biggest worry was essentially to guide mankind to God Almighty, to guide them to belief. Bütün derdi esasen insanları Cenâb-ı Hakk'a yönlendirmek, o imanı insanlara kazandırmak.
That's why I believe if they were to say: Bunun için, zannediyorum, deselerdi ki:
'For us to do what you say, we want you to give up your life.' "Senin dediğin şeyleri yapmamız için, canını vermeni istiyoruz."
Without hesitation he would have said, 'I desire to engage in that matter.' Hiç tereddüt etmeden, "Ben o meseleye hep teşneyim" buyururlardı.
Do not have any doubt about this. Hiç tereddüdünüz olmasın.
Abu Bakr would say the same, so would Umar, also Uthman; they would say the same, the same, and the same.
At Uhud there was an uproar that the 'Prophet was martyred', in return with a loud and high pitched Hijaz cry someone shouted: Uhud'da "Peygamber şehid oldu" diye bir yaygara koparılınca, sesi yüksek, tiz perdeden bir Hicaz nağmesi ile, biri şöyle dedi:
'How can you live in a place where he has passed away?' "O'nun vefat ettiği yerde siz niye yaşıyorsunuz ki?"
Yes, He portrayed death as so sweet; he did everything within his power so that others may earn it and attain that level of faith. Evet, O, ölümü öyle şirin görmüş, öyle göstermişti; başkaları onu kazansınlar diye, başkaları o imana ersinler diye elinden gelen her şeyi yapıyordu.
That's why in that moment they handed out the war-gains to those whose hearts weren't yet reconciled. İşte oradaki ganimetleri müellefe-i kulûba dağıtırken öyle dökülüp saçılması da ondan dolayı idi.
Let's win their hearts. Gönülleri kazanalım.
'Instigate the love of God in His servants' hearts so that He will love you'. "Allah'ı kullarına sevdirin, ki Allah da sizi sevsin."
A noble saying of the Prophet. Hadis-i şerif.
We can also say, 'Instigate the love of the Prophet to his community so that the Prophet will love you' "Peygamberimizi, ümmetine sevdirin ki, insanlara sevdirin ki, Peygamber de sizi sevsin" diyebilirsiniz.
What I just said is not a prophetic tradition but it is worthy of it.
However, some amongst the 'First and Foremost to embrace Islam' and the Medinan believers could not comprehend the issue at first. Fakat o kadîm, "Sâbikûn-u Evvelûn" Muhacirler ve Ensâr-ı kirâm (radıyallâhu anhüm) arasından bazıları meseleyi ilk planda kavrayamadılar.
They said: Dediler ki:
'Are these compliments for the people who joined us yesterday? "Dün gelen insanlara bu iltifat?
Up until this day for this matter we struggled and strived; however others are receiving all of the gains from the war.'
They were not concerned with the gains however there might have been some questions on their minds; they were young Muslims, they could think in that way.
It is part of human nature; 'And indeed he is, in love of wealth, intense' (Al-Adiyat, 100:8).
This is pointed out in one of the short chapters of the Qur'an. Kısâr'da (kısa sürelerin birinde) geçiyor.
The love of possessions, wealth and goods are within human nature; however humans need to have control over and suppress it through the love of God. Mal, mülk, menâl sevgisi, insanın tabiatında vardır; fakat insanın onu Allah sevgisi ile kontrol altına alması lazım, baskı altına alması lazım.
Some of them responded to the Prophet in that manner. Birkaçı o mevzuda öyle söyledi.
The Prophet asked for all the Medinan believers to gather and said, 'Do not include the original migrants amongst them'.
He meant to address the Helpers. Onlara, Ensar'a hitap edecekti.
They gathered around. Toplandılar oraya.
They were listening to his advice. Söz dinliyorlardı.
He explained to them: Anlattı onlara:
'You were like this. "Siz, şu idiniz.
When I came here, did you not gain these? Ben buraya gelince, şunları elde etmediniz mi?
As a result did you not achieve faith? Bu sayede dini elde etmediniz mi?
Were the feelings of Paradise and Hell not acquired? Cennet, Cehennem duygusu elde edilmedi mi?
Did not belief in God appear in you? Allah'a inanma olmadı mı?
And in a way you did not even know of the earth; by this means was there not an expansion within these lands?'
While he was addressing them with different questions they replied to each with 'Yes, indeed. O, bütün bunlar ile onlara değişik sorular tevcih ederken, hep tiz perdeden, "Evet öyle.
Yes it is. Evet öyle.
Indeed!' they said. Evet öyle" dediler.
He stated: Buyurdu ki:
'So now would you not wish upon yourselves that, while others return home with goods and wealth, you can return home with Me, would you not want this?' "Şimdi istemez misiniz, başkaları mal ile, mülk ile evlerine dönerken, siz de Benimle beraber evinize dönün; istemez misiniz?"
They all exclaimed with one voice like a choir, 'We want that O the Messenger of God!' Hepsi bir ağızdan, koro hâlinde "İsteriz yâ Rasûlallah" dediler.
And so the Respected Helpers, returned home with God's Messenger.
With our beloved Prophet. Efendimiz ile beraber.
The expressed used to say, 'Remember, pay heed to, convey, and feel in your conscience' is used to prompt us to recognise our transgressions and work towards compensating for them. Yitiklerimizin farkına varma ve onları telafi etme adına, Kur'an-ı Kerim'de geçen اُذْكُرُوا kelimeleri de "Hatırlayın, yâd edin, dillendirin, vicdanlarınızda duyun" şeklinde manalandırılabilir.
And this is essentially what the real remembrance of God is. For the heart to hear that matter from deep within, for it to be internalised, and for the mouth to pleasantly sing this like a reed flute.
The things that come out of the mouth are of value to the extent that they express the excitement of the heart. Dilden-dudaktan dökülen şeyler, kalbin heyecanının ifadesi olduğu ölçüde kıymet ifade eder.
And so, when this expression is mentioned in the Qur'an, sometimes it means 'Remember the Divine Essence', sometimes 'At some point in time you used to dwell in emptiness, remember the weariness of that time', sometimes 'You did not know of existence, the nature of existence and its core essence, you know, remember this', and sometimes 'You got to know the Prophet, the Pride of Humanity, and you also saw the wonders that came about in his eloquence and actions, the clarity that it helped you reach, remember this.' Dolayısıyla Kur'an-ı Kerim "Üzkurû" derken, bazen "Zât-ı Ulûhiyeti hatırlayın", bazen "Belli bir dönemde boşluk içinde bocalayıp duruyordunuz, şu andaki gınâyı hatırlayın", bazen "Varlığı, varlığın mahiyetini, nefsü'l-emriyesini bilmiyordunuz, öğrendiniz; hatırlayın bunu", bazen "İnsanlığın İftihar Tablosu'nu tanıdınız; aynı zamanda O'nun beyanı ile nelerin açığa çıktığını, vuzuha kavuştuğunu hatırlayın" demektedir.
In various places, whether in a succeeding or preceding context, this expression is used to remind a variety of things. Değişik yerlerde siyak-sibak itibarıyla, değişik şeyleri hatırlatma anlamında hep "vezkürû, vezkürû."
In a verse it says, 'And remind, for indeed, the reminder benefits the believers' (Adh-Dhariyat, 51:55). Bir ayet-i kerimde de "Sen öğüt verip hatırlat; çünkü hatırlatmak müminlere fayda verir" (Zâriyât, 51:55) buyuruluyor.
Yes, it says to 'Remind. Evet, "Hatırlat.
For, reminders will be hugely beneficial to the believers. İnanan insanlara hatırlatma, çok yararlı olacaktır.
Constantly remind.' Hatırlat devamlı" deniyor.
And maybe it falls upon us to constantly remind each other of such things.
We must remind each other of our shortcomings and rifts for the sake of their compensation, in a way that does not lead to hopelessness and affliction. Eksiğin-gediğin giderilmesi adına, eksik-gedik, ümitsizliğe sebebiyet vermeyecek şekilde, ye'se bâdî olmayacak şekilde anlatılmalı.
And in fact at the same time we must show great awareness, for it may compensate for our losses, for the things that we missed out on, by God's grace and will. Fakat aynı zamanda bir yüksek ufuk gösterilmeli bununla ki, esasen, mâ-fât telâfî edilebilsin, kaçırdığımız şeyler telâfî edilebilsin, Allah'ın izni-inayetiyle.
I pray from deep within my heart that God Almighty awakens in you an extra, renewed and strong desire to compensate for your losses. Mâ-fâtı telafi adına Cenâb-ı Hakk'ın sizlerde ekstradan, yeniden, şiddetli bir arzu ve istek uyarmasını cân u gönülden arzu ederim.
I pray to God that you excel on the path of being a true believer. Doğru mü'min olma yolunda mesafe almanızı, mesafe kat' etmenizi Cenâb-ı Hak'tan niyaz ederim.
I hope that you will not fall into losing on the road of winning that you are walking on, that you will not fall into stumbling, that you will not get stuck on obstacles, that you will not stay under the influence of Sufyans, that you will not follow those who worship the world. Yürüdüğünüz kazanma yolunda, inşaallah kaybetmeye maruz kalmazsınız, tökezlemeye maruz kalmazsınız, engellere takılmazsınız, Süfyânların tesirinde kalmazsınız, dünyaya tapanların arkasından sürüklenmezsiniz.
Because you, my apologies, are not a herd; because you are human, humans who are aware of their humanity. Çünkü siz -kusura bakmayın- sürü değilsiniz; çünkü siz insansınız, insanlığınızın şuurunda olan insanlarsınız.
You are humans that have spread to every corner of the world in order to announce the sense of humanity to humankind, that are distinguished with humane senses, that only speak humanely while opening their mouth and moving their lips, that whine and hope every second for humankind. İnsanlık duygusunu insanlığa duyurmak için dünyanın dört bir yanına açılmış insanî duygular ile serfirâz, ağzını açarken, dilini-dudağını kıpırdatırken hep insanlık konuşan, insanlıkla inleyip duran insanlarsınız.
Therefore, may God not lower us to their state. Dolayısıyla Allah, onların durumuna düşürmesin.
And may He not deprive you of the state you are in. Ve size de bulunduğunuz durumu kaybettirmesin.
They are helpless in their intolerance, groaning at the hands of a disease incurable even in asylums. Onlar, hazımsızlığın zebunu, tımarhanelerde bile tedavisi imkânsız bir hastalığın pençesinde inim inimler.
However, God Almighty has protected you; He has protected you as if, in a way, He let you come into existence, so to speak, in a hygienic environment, as if He always directed you to that hygienic environment with His incentive, special protection, compliance, safeguard, security and help.
May He keep His holy blessings henceforward.
And may He guard you from lapsing, falling, and stumbling. Ve sizi sürçmeden, düşmeden, tökezlemeden muhafaza buyursun.
May He make all of you steadfast on the direction of the ultimate truth, young and old together; woman and man together; those who have come a long way on this matter and those who have just started together; those going at the front and those joining them coming from the back.
This will suffice you. Vesselam.
